Border League Cross Country Races 2024/2025

Match Report

Race organiser and YAC team manager: Virginia Mitchell

A total of over 420 athletes from 10 Surrey and Hampshire clubs took part in the first match of the cross country season at Stoke Park on Sunday 10th November 2024. We believe this is a record attendance number of athletes since the Border League started over 25 years ago.
The mild and cloudy conditions were favourable this year and the turn-out was impressive . The course is an excellent one for both athletes and parents with sweeping views across the playing fields from one side of the course to the other on both the small lap (1.3k) and the big lap (2k).
The organisation went smoothly and Tony our starter did an excellent job ensuring each race started on time and that athletes had space on the start line. The Cleves team managed the finish line efficiently and we had a lovely team of middle distance boys and girls from GGAC as hares.
The marshals were at key points and all officials performed their duties with plenty of enthusiasm.
The athletes showed great endurance, competitive spirit and determination to run over the undulating grass of the park especially with an uphill climb to the finish funnel. Virginia and her team of YAC helpers were pleased that everything went well and that YAC hosted a great start to this season’s Border League.
